Day 3 – Reeling in Memories – Fishing on our Alaska Yacht Charter
After two days of cruising past glaciers and wildlife, day three of our Alaska yacht charter was all about casting our fishing lines. Our captain knew the prime fishing spots, and we were excited to try our luck.
A Nine Year Old’s Catch of a Lifetime:
The fishing highlight was watching a nine year old boy from Massachusetts reel in his first halibut. After a thrilling 20 minute battle, he landed a massive 49 inch halibut weighing 97 pounds! I’ll never forget the ear-to-ear grin on his face or his cry of joy when he finally wrangled the giant fish onboard. It was his catch of a lifetime.
Later that night, our chef Adam prepared part of the halibut for dinner – you can’t get fresher than that! In all, the boy was able to ship home over 30 pounds of halibut as a lasting memento.
Salmon and More:
While halibut was the big catch, we also reeled in rockfish for dinner. And in the summer months, salmon fishing comes alive here, with a limit of 6 fish per person. We also lowered crab and shrimp pots for an ultra-fresh seafood feast.
Sharing Special Moments:
Days like this are what I love about yacht chartering in Alaska. Catching our own dinner, seeing the thrill of young anglers landing their first big fish, and dining on seafood minutes out of the water. The memories made will last long after the trip ends.
With full bellies and smiles, we sailed on to see what other adventures awaited us on our Alaska voyage. The combination of luxurious comforts and wilderness experiences made this an unforgettable charter.
